VVD's 'Piriyam' gingelly oil is made of sesame seeds, a rich source of healthy fats that help in lowering high cholesterol levels. Also known as sesame oil, it is traditionally used for cooking in Tamil Nadu and other South Indian states. Known as til oil in the eastern parts of India, it improves the metabolism of the body and prevents constipation.
Process
Collection:Seeds are selected according to set standards.
Cleaning:The seeds are then cleaned of pebbles, leaves, sticks, soil, dust and husk.
Removal of immature seeds:After filtration, immature seeds are removed.
Crushing:The seeds are steamed and then crushed, which aids in easy extraction of oil.
Adding Jaggery:During the crushing process, jaggery is added for the easy flow of oil, it also makes the oil cake harder.
The raw oil is then filtered and stored in hygienically maintained tanks. The oil is checked for FFA and only when it is within 1.5% , is it sent for packing.
